GRAESTONE MANOR
Bed & Breakfast
Western New York's Most Haunted
Awarded The Best of Gasport 2022 & 2023
ABOUT
The Graestone Manor Bed and Breakfast is a beautifully preserved Victorian mansion. It sits along the Erie Canal, in the quiet countryside of Royalton, New York in the town of Gasport along the Niagara Wine trail.

Silas Newcomb first settled this property in 1833 where he established a large fruit farm. He was also a copper and carriage maker. He planted acres of apple and pear trees, some of which are still producing fruit on the property today. In 1850, the house and farm had changed hands to Silas’s son Albert Newcomb, his wife Ester and their daughters were now living in the house and running the farm. Silas’s other son A.C. Newcomb now owned 2 acres of the farm that were part of the original apple orchards. Then in 1860 the farm and house were sold to their neighbors, Horace and Harriet Chapin. They were farmers and continued caring for the fruit orchards and farming the land until 1865. Than Curtis Root, his wife Melissa along with their 5 children purchased the property from the Chapins in 1865.
Curtis Root was a racehorse enthusiast, gifted trainer and breeder of the racehorse Hamiltonian. He owned and operated the 'Roots Trotting Park' which was a quarter mile horse racetrack that existed in the field next to Graestone during the last half of the 19th century. Original 11 foot mahogany pocket doors, plaster ceiling details, gas lamp ceiling medallions, marble sinks, floor to ceiling windows and an original Victorian kitchen are just a few of the nineteenth century details that adorn this stunning 4,400 square foot home.
The current owners Robert Mattison and his wife Psychic Medium Heather Rease Mattison, have been renovating the property and returning it back to its original glory since purchasing the home in 2017. Now opening it up as a Bed and Breakfast, they are excited to share the rich history and glamour of a bygone era with those who wish to visit this beautifully preserved equestrian estate.
